Mexico Child Link is a UK registered charity which sponsors projects
in Atlixco & Puebla, Mexico
for homeless, abandoned and orphan children with learning disability,
many of whom are ex street children. We work in close partnership with Fundación Trébol de Puebla
AC - a fully tax deductible Mexican charitable Foundation which
we help to fund and develop.
Mexico Child
Link is a small charity which does does not actively recruit volunteers.
However, we are happy to consider a volunteer request on its merit,
if it is felt that a volunteer has specific skills to offer our
project. If you are 18 years old, and are unable to speak fluent
Spanish, it is unlikely that we will be able to offer you a
volunteering opportunity. Without the language skills, you
would be unable to communicate adequately with the staff or the
children at the project. The project is set in a rural environment
in Southern Mexico where few people are able to speak any English.
What type of
volunteers are we looking for - an example?
In 2005 we were
able to offer a volunteering opportunity to a Spanish speaking Civil
Engineer from Belgium, who was able to coordinate the design
of a low cost house with architecture students from a local
University in Puebla. We plan to build the dwelling for
two of the young residents of the project who have expressed
a desire to live more independently.
What volunteer
opportunities do we have at the moment?
If you have
skills in areas such as speech therapy, sustainable
agriculture, carpentry,
or the development of Funding proposals, we would be very interested
in hearing from you.
What does a
potential volunteer need to do?
• Have
a useful skill to offer the project
•
Be able to make a significant time commitment.
• Speak
fluent Spanish
• Raise
your own funding and insurance
• Be prepared
to live in fairly basic conditions in rural Mexico
• Provide
a character reference, a reference from a previous employer, and
a police reference.
(The children and young people whom we work with are very vulnerable.)
If you feel
you can help out with the development of the Mexico Child Link project,
we would really like to hear from you. Please Contact
