10 reasons to support a project for children in Mexico

You probably receive many requests from charities and other worthy causes. What's so different about the project run by Mexico Child Link?

  1. Our administration costs are minimal. We have one paid member of staff who works for a UK minimum wage. Your donation will be spent to help abandoned children, orphan children and street children who have a learning disability. Check out our income and expenditure.
  2. The project in Mexico is unique. There are many organizations working with street children but few who are working with the most vulnerable, those who also have a learning disability.
  3. The project in Mexico is carefully monitored and evaluated. The Mexico Child Link project co-ordinator visits the project in Mexico every year to monitor the project, advise our partner organization, and leave a detailed list of recommendations about the running of the project. We keep careful records on the number of children, young people and their carers who benefit from the project. This lets us know that it is good value for money.
  4. We are an independent child-centered organization, not affiliated to any religious of political group. We respect the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child and believe that children and young people with learning disability have the same rights as anyone else.
  5. We do not run a child sponsorship programme. Although these programmes are attractive to donors, who like the idea of an individual relationship with the child they sponsor, we feel that they are expensive to run and don't make the best use of your donation. Child sponsorship programmes are based on sentiment, rather than value for money.
  6. We have been working with our valued partner organization in Mexico, Fundación Trébol, for over fifteen years. Successful projects in the developing world are based upon long term relationships with local organizations. Check out our partner organization
  7. Income and expenditure is carefully audited in Mexico to make sure that funding is spent in the most useful way and that funds cannot be misappropriated.
  8. The project has the support of local government organizations in Mexico who have funded some aspects of the project such as an advice and information centre and the development of a small farm.
  9. We are fully tax deductible in both the US and the UK. Click here to donate.. More information about ways of supporting our work can be found on our donation page.
  10. Finally, we value any donation, no matter how small. We will personally acknowledge your gift. Thanks in advance for supporting this vital project for abandoned children with learning disability.
